Returning to Cycling

Not ridden a bike for years?

  • Concerned about today’s traffic levels.
  • Not as fit as you used to be?
  • All of the above are common remarks made to us but they should not be considered as barriers from getting back in the saddle.
  • We have experience in assisting adults in successfully returning the pleasures of cycling.
  • Whether for leisure or essential journeys our instructors are able to ride with you, initially on quieter roads, building confidence and progressing to assertive urban cycling if required. We can also introduce you to basic cycle maintenance so that unforeseen puncture will not spoil your trip.  (Top)

Riding as a Family Group

  • We regularly teach families to ride together. For any group there is a best formation. We can demonstrate to you how to ride protectively with your children and how to encourage them to use their bikes more often.
  • We are able to teach children from the age of 8 upwards to ride their bikes in fun, safe lessons. Complete beginners will need one to one lessons but we can teach children in pairs once they have mastered riding independently. We also cater for children with learning and physical disabilities.  Please contact us to discuss this.
  • We teach groups of people to ride together. If you intend to ride regularly with a partner or friends we can show you the most suitable way to ride in a group. (Top)

Route Planning

  • This course assists in planning suitable routes between places chosen by the client and will include such routes as home to work, railway station, school, town centre, swimming pool etc. (Top)

Accompanied Journeys

  • Here the instructor rides with the client on a planned route providing guidance through road junctions and traffic systems to make for easier and more confident cycling.  (Top)

Cycling for Health

  • Cycling is a great way of getting regular exercise.  You will be surprised how easy it is to build up from a few minutes riding a bike to being able to regularly cycle much further and for sustained periods.
  • Regular cycling has a positive effect on fitness and health. The link between regular exercise and good health has been established in research studies throughout the world including publications of the British Medical Association (BMA 1990).  Health benefits from cycling range from maintaining a healthy heart to developing strength, stamina, and good posture.
  • Cyclists generally have a greater sense of well-being and often have lower stress levels than those who do not cycle. These benefits far outweigh the potential exposure to pollution and danger on the roads.
  • Cycling could also help prevent the serious health consequences that face a large number of children who do not exercise. More children could be encouraged to cycle to school by developing safer and more appropriate cycle routes, along with training. (Top)

Basic Cycle Maintenance

  • Basic cycle maintenance sessions covering emergency roadside repairs, punctures etc. Along with simple checks and procedures to help keep your bike road worthy.  (Top)
